Free classes remain the way they were before, with the added benefits that students get limited avatar customization and everyone gets access to the mobile apps.
All Freemium classes have been upgraded to Premium classes, with the same expiration date. The number of slots is equal to the number of students in the class plus 10, in case new students join your class before it expires. It is impossible to create new Freemium classes.
All Premium classes remain the same, with the caveat that they can't be extended (either in duration or number of student slots).
If you've moved your account subscription to Free, you can now create an unlimited number of Free classes. Your Premium classes will remain in your account and you'll have access to all the features for those specific classes, but not for the Free ones.
If you upgrade your account to Premium and pay for the entire year, we'll discount the subsciption fee based on a pro rata of the Premium classes you paid for. For example, if you paid $40 for a year-long Premium class and have 9 months left, we'll discount $30 from the yearly Premium subscription ($40 x 9 / 12).
If you upgrade to Premium on a monthly plan, you won't be discounted, but your legacy Premium classes will remain Premium up until their expiration date, even if you downgrade back to Free.
Classcraft is an online educational role-playing game that teachers and students play together in the classroom. It is not meant to replace the existing school curriculum but rather supplement classroom learning by encouraging teamwork and increasing student motivation and discipline.
High school physics teacher Shawn Young was looking for a new way to engage and motivate his students. One day, Young jokingly told a student that he should earn experience points for his behavior. When his students replied, “That would be awesome,” Young knew he had to find a way to make it happen. He drew on his background in gamification and web development, and the idea for Classcraft was born.
Classcraft is unlike any other educational computer game on the market today. It’s subject agnostic and can be played at any level, in any classroom. Classcraft offers real incentives, not just badges and rewards. It also has real-life impact for students. For example, students earn experience points by being positive and hard-working or answering a question correctly in class. Conversely, they lose points for showing up late to class, disrupting the class, or turning in incomplete homework assignments.
Many classroom games require educators to build their teaching plan around them, but Classcraft enables teachers to implement it without changing their lesson plan in any significant manner. It’s augmented reality, so the computer platform adds a layer of game on top of normal teaching. Classcraft goes beyond the four walls of the classroom. Students earn and lose experience points for performance inside and outside the classroom and interact with each other online.
Classcraft was originally developed for founder Shawn Young’s 11th grade class but drew interest from educators in elementary, high school, college, and continuing education. It has since been reimagined for all age and grade levels.
Easily! Teachers can go to game.classcraft.com and sign up for an account, create their class, and present the game to their students. Yes. Because Classcraft is about classroom dynamics and teaches responsibility, accountability, discipline, and teamwork, it can be applied to any subject.
No, but once a teacher has set students up in the game, they can log in at any time and play.
Classcraft does not focus on any one particular subject. Instead, it teaches the value of cooperation, team spirit, classroom etiquette, hard work, and the idea that learning can be fun. As a result, it can be layered on top of any existing curriculum or lesson plan.
Classcraft rewards good work through distributing points and superpowers, encouraging motivation, fostering cooperation, and improving classroom conduct.
